I am absolutely going to be doing a 2027 Beekeeping Program.
The program has a very limited number of openings.
I've come up with a way to take twice as many students as I though I could handle.
It makes the complete program less expensive. It's actually better for everybody.
There will be 2 groups. A group of 4 that comes on the 1st Saturday of the month
and a group of 4 that comes on the 3rd Saturday of the month. There will also
be 4 opening in each group for people not doing any hands-on.
You must be 18 or above, not be allergic to bee stings. You will need to sign some
acknowledgement and release forms and pay in full before December 1, 2026.
There is no refunds, companies don't accepted bees back after purchase.
One student from one group will be sharing a hive with a student from the other
group. They will alternate between the 2 week inspections. This arrangement take
care of parking much better and gives a more personal focused program. It also doesn't
wear me out and drain my bank account.
I would like to make a personal comment about the program.
There is one thing you must be prepared for- There is a possibility that your bees
will die. Not likely in the summer, but not all of them will make it through the
winter. They could be yours. Remember, you're paying for the experience and knowledge,
not the bees. Not everything in life is about the money. I am going to spend about
$800 for each student. If I get the program completely full, I will spent $3,200 and
have an unreal amount of building to do. I will only collect $1,440. When a colonies
die I lose everything; no bees and equipment I don't need. You get to keep the knowledge.
If the bees live then it's a win-win.
Urban Wild Honey, LLC has been in operation since April 2023. It was inspected and certified
by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) as being compliant
with the Michigan Right to Farm Act. I'm not required to do so, but I'm in the process of
getting inspected again. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right.
I enrolled in a veterans' program called "Heroes to Hives."
It was a 9 month program administered through MSU. I completed the program and was awarded
an apprentice beekeeping certificate. My property is over 1 acre. Although I can have many
hive, I don't plan on having more than 12 production hive. My apiary is designed to hold
24 hives.
I am not a master beekeeper, but I can tell you all the basics about beekeeping. I'll share my apiary
and my equipment. I'm going to buy all the equipment you need to learn about beekeeping. I'll tell
what i know, what other people know, and give you my opinion about anything you want to know.
You must be 18 or older and not allergic to bees.
You must sign a form that you are not allegic to bees,
a release from liability form, and a no refund policy form.
You must have all the signed papers turned in and paid in full
no later than 1 December 2026.
